The petition, signed by 600 film workers, is directed at owner Vincent Bolloré, who makes no secret of his support for the right-wing nationalist party National Rally. The signatories call for mobilization against the “growing grip of the far right” on the film industry.

During the Cannes Film Festival, Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada announced that the company will no longer cooperate with the signatories.

Culture Minister Catherine Pégard now describes Saada's comments as "disproportionate" and says she understands the concerns of film workers.

Among the signatories are the actors Adèle Haenel and Juliette Binoche.
