France accuses Russia of carrying out a comprehensive influence campaign targeting European influencers on social media. The French move is made by Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in the Foreign Affairs Committee.
We have evidence that confirms that Russia is also trying to manipulate influencers in Europe, even in France, said Barrot, referring to allegations in the USA of Russian influence campaigns in, among other things, presidential elections.
The French daily newspaper Le Monde has previously reported that thousands of influencers have been contacted by individuals with close ties to the Kremlin.
The methods used are mixed and are constantly evolving, said Barrot, mentioning, among other things, the elections in Moldova and Romania.
He specifically pointed out X as a platform used in influence campaigns.
