The UK's Defence Chief Tony Radakin and France's counterpart Thierry Burkhard have met, among others, Zelenskyj in Kyiv for discussions on strengthening Ukraine's military and supporting the country when the war ends. They also met the Ukrainian military commander Oleksandr Syrskyj and Defence Minister Rustem Umjerov.
"Together, we want to guarantee a lasting and stable peace in Ukraine, a necessary condition for security on the European continent", writes Burkhard on X.
Zelenskyj writes that the countries are working to "ensure security in Ukraine and establish reliable security guarantees".
According to Zelenskyj, the first details are in place for how an allied "security force could be deployed" in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
"I am grateful to all countries that support us in this struggle and for the UK's and France's leadership", writes the president.
Zelenskyj had previously called the meeting "fundamental".
We are discussing the presence on the ground, in the air, and at sea. We are also discussing air defence. And some other sensitive matters, he said on Friday.
