Frederiksen to USA: Annexation Not an Option, Let's Strengthen Arctic Security

You cannot annex other countries, not even with international security as an argument, was the direct message from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to the USA.

The message was delivered by Frederiksen in English, at a press conference in the capital Nuuk, together with Greenland's outgoing Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede and incoming Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

Denmark, on the other hand, will do everything to strengthen security for Greenland and the Arctic, together with the USA, emphasized Frederiksen.

If you want to be more present on Greenland, Greenland and Denmark are ready for it. If you want to strengthen security in the Arctic, as we would like, let's do it together, she said, turning to the USA and President Donald Trump.

The Danish Prime Minister has visited Greenland after the recurring statements from the USA's President about taking over the island. The purpose is to support Greenland in what, according to Frederiksen, is a "really tough time that has arisen".
