Franco Baresi was buried in central Milan, where thousands of fans gathered to bid farewell to the Milan legend. Among those present were several big names in football, including Paolo Maldini, Marco van Basten and Alessandro Costacurta.
Baresi spent his entire 20-year playing career at Milan, making more than 700 appearances for the club. The centre-back won three European Cups and six Serie A titles, among other honours. His No. 6 shirt is retired by Milan and no other player may wear it.
Baresi made 81 appearances for Italy and was part of the team that won the World Cup in 1982. He was 66 years old.
