France intends to purchase two reconnaissance aircraft from Saab, the company writes in a press release.

Saab and the French procurement agency for defense equipment (DGE) have signed a letter of intent regarding the sale of Saab's airborne radar surveillance system of the type Global Eye.

It also includes an option to purchase two additional Global Eye aircraft.

The parties have not signed any sales contract at present and Saab has not yet received any order from France, but according to the French agency, a contract is expected to be finalized within the coming months.

"This will strengthen the French defense forces' ability to create a comprehensive situation picture and detect threats in the air, on land and at sea. With GlobalEye, France will have full sovereignty over its surveillance and command capability", says Saab's CEO and President Micael Johansson in the press release.
