France Opens War Crimes Investigation Into Israeli Strike on Beirut Building

France has launched a judicial investigation after receiving a complaint alleging war crimes in an Israeli attack on a residential building in Lebanon two years ago.

Lawyer Clémence Bectarte confirmed to AFP that France is investigating a complaint against the Israeli army over an attack in Lebanon and that two judges in the crimes against humanity division of the Paris court have been assigned to the case.

A French-Lebanese artist whose parents were killed in the bombing filed a complaint in France this spring together with the International Federation for Human Rights.

A total of seven civilians were killed in the bombing of a residential building in Beirut on November 26, 2024. The attack took place hours before a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect.
