France's President Emmanuel Macron announces that France may recognize a Palestinian state as early as June.

We must move forward towards recognition, and that's what we will do in the coming months, said Macron.

He hinted that recognition of a Palestinian state could take place at a UN conference in New York planned for June, which will address the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

Our goal is to lead the conference together with Saudi Arabia in June, said Macron to TV company France 5.

Macron's statement on Wednesday came after a visit to Egypt, where he also traveled to the border with Gaza.

During the visit, Macron also met with Egyptian President Abd al Fattah al-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan.
