French firefighters are currently battling between 30 and 40 forest fires, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
"But not all these fires are accidents," Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu warns on X in a post in which he writes that several fires are believed to be arson and says that more than 13,500 fires have started this year.
“Since July 6, 162 arrests have been made,” Lecornu writes. He also warns in the post that deliberately setting a fire is a crime that can result in 15 years in prison.
