The Hungarian government's contacts with Russia have been exposed in several revelations in recent weeks. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó is said to have leaked information to Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.
"It is a betrayal of the solidarity required between the countries of the European Union," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told France Inter radio.
One of the conversations reportedly took place during an EU summit that dealt with membership talks with Ukraine at the end of 2023.
"Sometimes well-intentioned, direct blackmail is the best option," Lavrov is reported to have said at the time, according to Reuters.
Szijjártó is also said to have shared documents about Ukraine's EU application with Lavrov.
