France approves assisted dying for adults with incurable conditions

At the same time, the court ruled that certain provisions need clarification.

France thus joins the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada, which have already legalized assisted dying.

The proposal was put forward by President Emmanuel Macron, and the issue has divided politicians for several years.

Only adults of full mental capacity will be allowed to request assistance in dying. They need to suffer from an incurable condition that is life-threatening and whose pain cannot be alleviated or that the patient does not consider manageable.
