Charles Kushner, the US ambassador to Paris and father of Trump advisor Jared Kushner, is now being summoned by the French Foreign Ministry.

The summons follows statements from the US Embassy in France and the US State Department's Counterterrorism Office. Both have warned of "violent radical left-wing extremism" on the rise in France following the fatal beating of French right-wing extremist Quentin Deranque in Lyon last weekend.

"We reject all attempts to exploit this tragedy for political purposes," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told French media.

Deranque died after being attacked by at least six people in connection with a protest held by the French far-right.
