Contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry - better known as Foxconn - reported an unexpectedly large sales increase of 22 percent for the fourth quarter of last year. It cited strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) server rooms as the explanation.

During the quarter, Taiwanese Hon Hai's sales amounted to 2.6 trillion New Taiwan dollars (equivalent to just over 760 billion SEK). This compares with an average forecast of 2.4 trillion New Taiwan dollars.

Hon Hai works closely with U.S. chipmaker Nvidia and is currently focusing on expansion in the U.S. The company also generates sales revenue from operating iPhone assembly factories on behalf of Apple.
