At 5 p.m. on Monday, a 25-year-old man was shot in the Nyfors area of Eskilstuna. The man was found lying on the floor by the entrance to a fast food restaurant.

It was indoors, police spokesperson Martina Gradian told TT.

A large police operation was launched and the man was taken to hospital but died of his injuries later that evening. It is the first fatal shooting this year, according to Kvartal statistics.

The police still had a cordon in place at the restaurant on Tuesday morning and will continue to have a high presence in the area.

On Tuesday night, four people were arrested: two teenagers under 18 and two under 15. The police stated on Tuesday morning that the crime classification for all those arrested was murder. According to prosecutor Henrik Skoglund, however, no one is currently suspected of that crime.

Those arrested are suspected of protecting a criminal, a serious crime, he told TT.

The two under 15 have been released and are in the care of social services.

"I can verify that social services are in contact with them and their families," he says.

Skoglund declined to comment on whether they are still suspected of crimes, saying only that they were released because of their age.

I cannot comment further on their involvement in the investigation.

Skoglund states that the police are searching for additional people who may be connected to the shooting.
