"It is significantly higher than usual," Boliden's communications manager Klas Nilsson told TT.
Earlier in the day, four people were taken to hospital after a collapse in the mine. All had minor injuries, according to the Dalarna Region press service.
Boliden then paused operations, and that same evening underground work was suspended due to the increased seismic activity. Klas Nilsson describes the situation as unusual, but not unique.
Even above ground, cracking sounds can be heard in the rock, he says.
"Those who live in the area may also notice this. It has nothing to do with the mine."
The zinc mine in Garpenberg has approximately 500 employees. In 2023, it reached a depth of 1,500 meters.
