The accident occurred while 14 children and two leaders were on a bike ride outside the community of Terhole in the province of Zeeland. On a curve, several of the children and one of the leaders were hit by a car.
In addition to the deceased, three children are being treated in hospital for serious injuries. A 19-year-old man has been arrested following the incident, which occurred earlier in the day.
