The man, who was in his 50s, was found on Sunday night at Karlsholme in central Mariestad. He was seriously injured and his life could not be saved.
Four men aged 20-25 have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident, which is being investigated as a suspected murder. However, the investigation is still in its early stages, the police said on their website.
