Four people have died in avalanches in the Italian Alps, Rai and other outlets report.

Two more people have died while skiing off-piste on the French side of the border in Saint-Véran.

Temperatures have risen slightly after snowfall, increasing the risk of avalanches.

A total of 14 people, skiers and hikers, have been hit by avalanches in various parts of Italy. In one avalanche that claimed lives, one person was also seriously injured.

Over the winter, at least 20 people have died in avalanches in the Alpine countries.
