Fortum reports unexpected drop in second-quarter operating profit

Finnish energy group Fortum, one of Sweden's major electricity suppliers, reports adjusted operating profit of EUR 106 million for the second quarter of the year.

This compares with a profit of EUR 115 million in the second quarter of 2025.

The profit drop was unexpected, with spot prices in the Nordic market twice as high as in the second quarter of last year. Analysts had expected an operating profit of 150 million euros on average, according to Bloomberg.

Sales during the quarter rose to 1.1 billion euros, up from 974 million euros a year earlier.

Corrected: An earlier version of the text stated the wrong profit level for 2025.
