Not even 30 seconds had passed in the game before Forsberg scored his first goal, skillfully placed at St. Louis goalkeeper Joel Hofer's right post.
"I think it was a pretty solid game for us. It started off well, of course, with the early goal. It gave us a little extra energy," Forsberg told nhl.com .
But the scoring wouldn't stop there. Just over a period later, he scored 3–1 on the power play – assisted by Steven Stamkos. In the third period, he scored 5–2 on an empty net, the third goal of the night and the final score of the game.
Forsberg took four shots on goal during the match, and was awarded three of them.
"Fil did his thing tonight. He gave us a great start. We wanted to come out and set the tone and dictate the pace. He had a big part in that," Nashville coach Andrew Brunette told nhl.com.
