The Formula 1 race was originally scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Swedish time. However, rain and thunderstorms have made things difficult for the organisers, who had to take over the competition after the race was originally scheduled to be held in Bahrain but was moved due to the situation in the Middle East.

About 40 minutes after the scheduled time, a new start attempt was made. However, the drivers then experienced major technical problems and the start procedure was interrupted again.

The drivers had to wait another hour before the race could start.

Four-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull took pole position, with Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari just behind him.
