Two officials were just meters from being hit during the Formula 1 race in Mexico City on Sunday. The incident shocked driver Liam Lawson.

Lawson was on his way out from the depot area when two people suddenly ran straight across the track in front of him.

Are you kidding me? Did you see that? Good God. I could have killed them, said Red Bull driver Lawson over the team radio.

The officials were on the track to pick up trash when the New Zealander came speeding. He was forced to make a quick maneuver to avoid a catastrophe.

I could hardly believe it when I saw it, I was close to running them over. It's so dangerous. I have no idea what they were doing out there, said Liam Lawson to Viaplay afterwards.

23-year-old Lawson broke off the race after only eight laps due to too much damage to the car.
