Rwanda to Host Formula 1 Grand Prix for 10 Years From Early 2030s

It’s now confirmed: Rwanda will host Formula 1 races for ten years from the “early 2030s.” Africa will host F1 races for the first time since South Africa in 1993.

Rwanda applied to host a Formula 1 race in December 2024, and the country has invested heavily in sporting events in recent years, often through Visit Rwanda.

Now the country will have a ten-year connection with the F1 circus. The track in Bugesera, southeast of the capital, Kigali, is expected to be completed early next decade. When the African Grand Prix is added to the racing calendar, F1 will have raced on every inhabited continent.

“Today is a milestone for Formula 1,” says CEO Stefano Domenicali.

Visit Rwanda is an organization that works to strengthen the country's tourism sector, including through partnerships with several major football clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
