The 33-year-old Romanian came with the message directly on the court after losing Tuesday's round of 16 in the WTA tournament in front of the home crowd in Cluj-Napoca.

I'm not going to cry, because this has been beautiful. I was number one in the world and won two Grand Slams. Life goes on and there's a life after tennis, she says according to Aftonbladet.

Halep was banned for doping in October 2022 after testing positive for the banned substance roxadustat, in connection with the US Open earlier that fall.

The four-year ban was later shortened to nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas). Halep had thus served her sentence and began competing again in March last year.

Halep won the French Championships in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019. During the years 2017-2019, she was ranked world number one for a total of 64 weeks.
