The man, who was an elected representative in the Västerås City Council and the Västmanland Regional Council, was entitled to compensation for loss of income for carrying out his political assignments.
He is considered to have abused that right, and the Västmanland District Court found that he had wrongly received compensation on a total of 180 occasions, totaling SEK 436,042. He has now been sentenced to pay the same amount in damages. In addition to damages, he was given a suspended sentence and 200 hours of community service.
