Former South Korean president Yoon Suk-Yeol appeals life sentence

Yoon was sentenced last week to life in prison for rebellion after he imposed martial law in the country in 2024.

"We believe we have a responsibility to clearly document the problems with this ruling - not only in the court's record, but also before the verdict of history," Yoon's lawyers said in a statement, according to AFP.

According to the ruling, Yoon's issuance of martial law constituted a deliberate attempt to "paralyze" the legislature for an extended period of time.
