Former Social Democrat Jamal El-Haj is betting on starting his own political party, reports Sydsvenskan. In documents that the newspaper publishes, the party is to be called the Unity Party and is already said to be registered with the Election Authority.

Jamal El-Haj is a member of parliament since 2018, but left Socialdemokraterna last year after Expressen revealed that the politician tried to influence an asylum case at the Migration Agency. However, he remains as a member of parliament – and has been a political wild card since then.

This is one of several disputes that have been revealed regarding the former social democrat, who is now trying to gather support from associations, imams and organizations in Sweden to start the so-called Enighetspartiet.

One of the meetings Jamal El-Haj held was with the Iraq Turkmens Peace Association in Malmö, writes Sydsvenskan.
