Two former employees of Norrtälje Prison are being held in custody on suspicion of gross misconduct and gross bribery. Three additional people are also being held in custody.

"It concerns two inmates at the institution and a person suspected of having acted on the outside," says District Attorney Ludmila Pronko in a press release.

The two inmates and the third person are suspected of aggravated bribery.

According to information provided to SVT, it is about phones being smuggled into the prison, which has helped gang criminals communicate.

The individuals were detained in connection with house searches at several locations in Sweden on Wednesday. Detention hearings are to be held on Friday, at Gothenburg District Court.
