Han Duck-Soo, 76, was sentenced to 23 years in prison at the beginning of the year for "neglecting his duty" when former President Yoon Suk-Yeol issued martial law in December 2024.
The court took into account Han's "career of more than 50 years as a public servant before martial law" and concluded that "the documents also do not show evidence that the defendant participated more actively in the uprising." The sentence was thus reduced by eight years.
Yoon Suk-Yeol was sentenced to life imprisonment for rebellion in February.
