Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, received just over 17 percent of the vote in the first round, while left-wing politician Roberto Sánchez received 12 percent.
The ultra-conservative Rafael López Aliaga was only about 21,000 votes short of overtaking Sánchez, finishing with 11.9 percent and without a chance to advance to the second round on June 7.
Both Fujimori and Sánchez have run for president of Peru before; Fujimori is running for the fourth time and Sánchez for the third.
