A judge on Friday ordered Humala to be released after ruling that the charges lacked a legal basis. According to the court, concealing campaign contributions was not a crime at the time of the events.
His wife, Nadine Heredia, who is in exile in Brazil, is also included in the decision. She was convicted in the same case.
Humala has been imprisoned since April 2025.
