Former Northvolt CEO Peter Carlsson Suspected in Work Environment Crime

Northvolt's former CEO Peter Carlsson has, along with several other persons, been suspected of causing another person's death through work environment crimes. What has occurred is so serious that one cannot simply let it go, says prosecutor Christer B Jarlås.

The incident in question is when a 25-year-old man died after an explosion at the factory in Skellefteå.

According to Carlsson, he was served with suspicion during an interrogation on Wednesday.

"The accident that occurred in 2023 is incredibly unfortunate and sad. Otherwise, I await the investigation and have no further comments," he writes in a text message to Norran.

In total, five to six people who previously held leading positions at Northvolt will be served with suspicion.

It's a circle of executives at Northvolt. I've served three or four and will serve a couple more. Whether it's five or six in total is a bit uncertain, says Jarlås.

According to Jarlås, the company, among other things, failed in its risk analysis regarding premises and equipment. The reason why individuals are served with suspicion and not the company is due to the bankruptcy earlier this year.

We've been working on investigating this death that occurred in 2023 for a long time. It was so unclear with the lines of responsibility, so we let that part rest, but then the company was suddenly gone, he.

In connection with the bankruptcy, it remains to place responsibility on someone in a leading position at the company. We came to the conclusion that what has happened is so serious that you can't just let it go.
