Former Northern Irish politician Jeffrey Donaldson was sentenced on Thursday to 15 years in prison for, among other offences, one count of rape and 13 counts of sexual assault involving two girls between 1985 and 2008.
The former leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has denied the allegations.
The judge at Newry Crown Court, south of Belfast, criticised Donaldson’s response to the allegations:
"There has not been, and undoubtedly remains, a single sign of remorse, forgiveness or shame from this man," said Judge Paul Ramsey.
Donaldson resigned as DUP leader and gave up his seat in the British House of Commons when the criminal allegations came to light in 2024.
