The funeral was scheduled to take place in March, but was postponed due to the war. It will be a multi-day ceremony that will begin in the capital, Tehran, on July 4 and then continue in the Shiite holy city of Qom. The actual burial will then take place on July 9 in Khamenei's hometown of Mashhad.
Ali Khamenei was Iran's supreme leader for 37 years and was succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
