It's election night 2010. Two puppyish SD guys, cousins Ville and Tobias, are sent to Rinkeby to hang a huge Swedish flag in the square to celebrate the party's entry into parliament.
But most of it goes awry and the mission turns into a crazy night of chaos, drug dealers and culture clashes.
In the role of the cocky and irresponsible Ville is Noel Flike, who was recently one of the artists in the now defunct group Hov1.
"So I talk in the movie like I normally talk, and I thought it was pretty easy to find the character, I met this guy growing up. I act like this person who maybe speaks first and never thinks," he says.
“Comedy first and foremost”
After his first role, he can imagine more acting jobs.
I've probably thought, like many others, that it would have been fun to try. I thought it was a lot of fun, I was eager to try it out.
Arvid Swedrup, who plays the nerdy Tobias, enjoyed showing off his comedic talent during the shoot.
Both the challenge and the fun were in the physical aspects. Tobias, who I play, is quite clumsy and it's nice to get to fall on a lot of things. That's fun in itself.
The actors say that whether the film will be politically controversial is not something they consider.
"So I don't think about it too much to be completely honest. I think it's first and foremost an action comedy where you twist and turn things," says Laura Majid, who plays activist and poet Kaya.
“Tired of it”
Director and screenwriter Michael Lindgren also sees the film primarily as a comedy, inspired by his own favourites such as "The Hangover" and Scorsese's "After Hours."
"I have no ambition to change anyone's opinion or influence the election, I just want to poke around in this somewhat sensitive pot and maybe at most raise questions. But above all, to make people laugh," he says.
At the same time, “Flaggan” is in line with many other things that Lindgren is involved in, such as “Svenska nyheter”, “IFS – invandrare för Swedskar” and “Silent attraction”, where he tries to act as a mediator in the Swedish culture war. A mission that he describes as self-imposed.
I think you have to invent your own meaning and I've apparently got the idea that I'm going to be this mediator. But I think it's quite fun, but I'm also quite tired of it. I don't know if I'm going to continue with it.
