Former Scottish footballer John Robertson has died. He was 72. "Rest in peace Robbo, our greatest," Nottingham Forest wrote in a statement on their website.

John Robertson played professional football for Derby County and Nottingham Forest, and is an icon in the latter.

He was part of Forest's two European Cup wins in 1979 and 1980.

In the 1979 final, Forest faced Malmö FF, and John Robertson provided the assist for the only goal of the match. In 1980, Robertson himself scored the only goal of the European Cup final, helping Forest defend their title against Hamburg.

"John's unparalleled talent, humility and unwavering dedication to Nottingham Forest will never be forgotten," the club wrote.

Robertson played for the Scottish national team where he made 28 appearances, including during the 1982 World Cup.

He was 72 years old.
