The former child actress Sophie Nyweide has passed away at the age of 24, reports Deadline. She played, among other things, the daughter of Michelle Williams and Gael Garcia Bernal in the Swedish director Lukas Moodysson's Hollywood film "Mammut" in 2009.

In an obituary, the family writes that the former actress "self-medicated to cope with all the trauma and shame she carried within herself, and it resulted in her death."

Sophie Nyweide was born in 2000 in Burlington, Vermont, and got her first film role at the age of six. She played in a total of twelve films until 2015, when she appears to have ended her career. Among other things, she had roles in Noah Baumbach's "Margot at the Wedding" and Darren Aronofsky's "Noah".
