The verdict announced in Luleå district court became conditional with community service for 120 hours. Nordmark must also pay damages of 64,701 kronor, reports SVT News.
The incident to which the charge relates occurred on February 22 this year when Claes Nordmark is alleged to have attempted to have intercourse with a woman against her will in his home after a night out.
The prosecutor had requested a prison sentence for attempted rape, which Nordmark is acquitted of, but he is instead convicted of sexual assault. The district court does not believe that it is proven that he had the intention of subjecting the woman to a rape.
Claes Nordmark has denied the crime throughout the entire investigation, but resigned from all political assignments after he was charged with attempted rape.
