The poorly managed housing association went bankrupt in October last year.
The association had poor finances for a long time, which resulted in heating and water being turned off for residents.
The former board member, who denies any wrongdoing, has been convicted of gross breach of trust, serious tax crimes and serious accounting crimes.
Malmö District Court has ruled that he abused his position of trust, including by not paying rent to the association and by ignoring demands from the environmental authority.
In addition to the prison sentence, he must pay tax surcharges and is banned from doing business for seven years.
Another former board member of the association has been given a suspended sentence and community service for accounting crimes.
