According to reports, the grounding occurred after the ship took a different route from the one designated by Iran.
Iran says ships in the strait must now follow instructions from the Revolutionary Guard.
Relative calm has reigned in the disputed strait in recent weeks, since the US and Iran signed a framework agreement aimed at reaching a definitive end to the war. However, on Thursday last week, a ship was shot down by an Iranian drone, prompting the US to launch new attacks on Iran.
