The visit is the first by a Swedish foreign minister since the country's independence in 1993, Blankspot writes.
"The two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations between Eritrea and Sweden, regional developments, and peace and security in Africa and the Red Sea region," Eritrea's Ministry of Information writes on its website and publishes a picture of the visit.
Maria Malmer Stenergard arrived on Wednesday and is on a two-day visit to the capital, Asmara, according to the ministry.
She also met with Eritrea's Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, among others.
Over 10,000 people are estimated to be political prisoners in Eritrea, according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. One of them is Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak, who has been imprisoned without trial since 2001.
TT is looking for Malmer Stenergard.
