One of the topics discussed was the war between Israel and Iran. The Foreign Minister says that she received a report on the US's current view of the situation and emphasized that Sweden's message is that a diplomatic solution is needed.
We want them to return to the negotiating table, diplomatic efforts are what is needed now.
”Uncomplicated dialogue”
What response did you get from Rubio when you presented this?
I do not go into what he said, but we discussed the serious development in Iran, then we also came to the very difficult humanitarian situation in Gaza and Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. And I become concerned that one can only manage to focus on one part at a time, now it is full focus on Israel and Iran and the development there.
The relationship with the Trump administration is described by the Foreign Minister as good, but at the same time emphasizes that it is unpredictable.
It was a great meeting and it is a very uncomplicated dialogue that I really appreciate. At the same time, the administration is unpredictable and they sound different from what we are used to, and we have to relate to that. They are very clear that they put American interests first.
Agreement on space technology
The Foreign Ministers also signed an agreement on American exports of space technology to Sweden.
It means in practice the possibility of transferring advanced technology where we undertake to also protect that technology so that it is not spread further to others. It is an important strategic asset and the agreement can enable major advances in, among other things, space research.
