The US peace plan for the Ukraine war is clearly leaning in Russia's favor and a "significantly more reasonable" balance is required, according to Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M). I will honestly say that we were surprised that this work had come this far, she tells Nyhetsmorgon.

The minister's criticism is in line with several other statements since the draft 28-point peace plan became known. Several points are "problematic" where compromise is not possible, according to Malmer Stenergard.

The peace plan also involves European countries, even though they were not at the negotiating table.

We are willing to take responsibility, but we must also be involved in shaping it. In this future work, we must ensure that a better balance is achieved in an agreement.

According to the agreement, Russia would gain access to parts of the country's now frozen assets, while the EU negotiates how they should be handled. Malmer Stenergard is "very frustrated" about the deadlock.

If there were a bad peace now, I think a great deal of responsibility rests on large parts of Europe, although not the Nordic countries, which have really contributed.
