The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD) is tightening its travel advice for Iran due to the security situation. Swedish citizens in Iran are urged to leave the country. Around 1,500 Swedish citizens are estimated to be in Iran, Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) says.

The decision to advise against travel is made with reference to the security situation.

Earlier on Monday, Maria Malmer Stenergard said she is concerned about developments in Iran, where mass protests are being violently suppressed and very little information about what is happening is emerging.

The internet shutdown makes it difficult to verify information and to reach Swedish citizens in the country.

It is also important that those in Iran can actually access our information; we must take that into account, Malmer Stenergard said earlier.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clearly advised against all travel to Iran since 2022. Now there is a direct call to leave the country.

We have a consular hotline you can contact, if that is technically possible. We have received a number of calls and are, of course, prepared to continue to do so.
