According to DN, the Security Service is now conducting a preliminary investigation against two individuals suspected of gross unauthorized handling of secret information. One of them is said to be a high-ranking official. DN reports that the person has had several foreign service postings.

According to information from Ekot, the preliminary investigation is linked to journalist Joakim Medin who is imprisoned in Turkey.

The two individuals were arrested a few days ago but have since been released on bail. The criminal suspicions remain.

In a comment, Gunnar Strömmer writes that the government has been informed about the Security Service's investigation.

"The government has been informed that the Security Service is conducting a preliminary investigation with the crime classification 'gross unauthorized handling of secret information'. /.../ The government is keeping itself continuously informed", writes the Minister of Justice.

It is unclear on what suspicion degree the individuals were detained and what measures the Security Service has taken in the investigation. The case is subject to high secrecy.

The suspicions are said to concern crimes committed between October 2022 and May 2025, writes Dagens Nyheter. Requests for public defenders for the suspects were submitted to the district court on May 11, according to the newspaper.

There is, according to DN, no connection to the diplomat who is simultaneously suspected of espionage and who was released on bail on Wednesday.

TT has contacted the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
