The Icelandic football star could hardly believe his eyes when the invitation to the royal gala dinner arrived in the mail.
When I got the letter and saw it, I said to my wife: "this is a joke". I didn't believe it at all. But then we saw that we were actually on the list. It was an honor to experience it, he says.
As a long-time player in Sweden, Traustason was, together with his wife Andrea Röfn Jónasdóttir, the sports representative at Tuesday's event.
I said "your majesty" to the king. I learned it in the line on the way to meet him. I'm not used to such situations.
It was a memorable evening, says Traustason, but there was one thing that brought down the experience:
I didn't get enough to eat. The food was good, but I had to eat more at the hotel a little later. The portions were too small.
On the menu was Swedish boiled white and green asparagus with meadow acid, rapeseed emulsion, violets and roasted almonds, followed by baked halibut with top murklor, confit silver onion, mayrova, Sandefjord sauce, dill and pressed potatoes, reports Svensk Damtidning.
