With specially designed jerseys, the French football leagues hope to combat and increase awareness about sexism in football. In connection with International Women's Day, it is intended that all teams in the two highest football divisions will wear the message "WO=MAN" instead of the player's name on the back.

The initiative quietly started in connection with a match yesterday and will continue over the weekend, the leagues announce.

The message will also be visible on the match balls as well as in TV broadcasts from the matches. The issue of increasing safety for female football fans has been raised after, among other things, female fans of Paris Saint-Germain reported being subjected to humiliating security checks by male guards in connection with the match against Barcelona.
