The flags were set up – but no king Carl Gustaf was ever present at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday morning.
Thick fog over Belgium greatly delayed the landing in Brussels, which ultimately made the entire visit to Secretary General Mark Rutte cancelled, according to NATO representatives.
Instead the king went directly to NATO's military headquarters in Mons in southern Belgium to meet Swedish military personnel on site. A visit to the Swedish NATO representation in Brussels has been rescheduled for the afternoon.
