Flydubai Co-Pilot Planned to Hijack Plane and Crash It Into Tel Aviv Airport, Investigation Says

The co-pilot on the Flydubai flight planned to hijack the plane and crash it into Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, according to the United Arab Emirates prosecutor leading the country’s investigation.

The Omani co-pilot who slashed the pilot while boarding the flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30 is said to have been inspired by al-Qaeda’s attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.

The co-pilot intended to cause as great a loss of life as possible, according to the investigation.

"None of the procedures revealed any signs of his extremist views or his intention to carry out a terrorist act," the prosecutor says of the co-pilot’s security clearance.
