At least around 30 people have been killed as a result of heavy rainfall and extensive flooding in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo-Kinshasa.

Many people have also been injured and the storm has also caused significant material damage, according to a government representative.

Over half of the city is inaccessible and it is not possible to reach the airport due to collapsed roads.

A main road that has collapsed connects the capital with the rest of the country – and has led to concerns about how trade will be affected.

At least 100 people died during a similar flooding in Kinshasa in 2022.
